Ella Mae White Tail "Wiyaka Waste Win", better known as "Sissy", entered this world on April 21, 1956, born to Charles and Edith (Poor Thunder) White in Rapid City, SD.

The family returned to Standing Rock in 1960, and made their home in McLaughlin. Ella Mae graduated from the McLaughlin High School in May of 1974. While in attendance there, she was a majorette in the school band. She then successfully obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from Tennessee Tech located in Cookville, TN. She enjoyed going to rodeos and to pow wows where she would dance in the traditional style. She was a model for Harriet Skye and later was a Corson County Voter Registration officer. On August 18, 1980, Ella brought forth into this world her daughter, Sacheen Lorraine White Tail and on October 3, 1992, son, Lukas Dayne White Tail–Two Bears was born.

Ella was a very talented person. She enjoyed sewing and making beautiful satin star quilts that she painstakingly handstitched. She loved to be in the kitchen making summer salads, cooking various international foods, and organizing meals and menus for special occasions. Ella enjoyed her time reading books, watching movies and visiting with her family and friends. She had a special place in her heart for her grandson, Kaleb White Tail, her nephew, Jordan White and her niece, Jasmin White. She was also very fond of our four-legged friends, especially dogs.

Ella was a very strong-minded willful individual. She was knowledgeable of the United States legal system as well as the legal system of the Standing Rock Sioux Nation.
