Art Bonato

Funeral services for Art Bonato, 91, of Mobridge, formerly of Belle Fourche, will be Tuesday, Dec. 4th at 5:30PM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 220 6th Street West, Mobridge. Burial will be at a later date in Belle Fourche. Visitation will be Monday, Dec. 3rd at Stout Family Funeral Home, 519 7th Ave. East, Mobridge, beginning at 5:00PM, with a scripture/rosary service at 7:00PM. Art passed away Nov. 30, 2012 in Mobridge.

Arthur Martin Bonato was born November 1, 1921 in Belle Fourche, South Dakota to Lorenzo and Terisina (Delmolin) Bonato. He grew up and was educated in Belle Fourche, graduating from high school there.

After graduating from high school, he helped his father on the ranch, later joining the Marine Corps. After his discharge, Art went back to work on the ranch and became a leathercrafter and saddle maker. Art also worked for Circle Y Leather Goods as a salesman.

He moved to Ft. Collins, Colorado in 1970 where he worked for Poudre General Tires before moving to Mobridge in 1983. He worked for Gienger Repair where he did small engine repair. He moved to Windsor, Colorado in 2003 and then back to Mobridge in 2010.

Art was a member of the Parker Browder American Legion Post #4 in Mobridge. He loved to fish and hunt and watch western movies. Art will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Grateful for having shared his life is his wife of 42 years, Phyllis Bonato; children, Robert Bonato, Deer Lodge, MT, Teresa (Andy) Howie, Newell, SD and Kris Schmidt, Arizona; step-children, Da Lena (Doug) James, Mobridge, SD, Raymond & Conrad Roemmick of Johnstown, CO and Martin Roemmick, Aberdeen, SD along with 17 grandchildren and numerous great and great great grandchildren.

Art was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, his step-mother, Albina Bonato and step-daughter, Flo Bears Heart.
